Competition How to Order BOSS vs BOSS CobraJet

Race cars. The extreme expression of performance and the pride of all auto manufacturers- especially when the race cars the manufacturer designs, engineers and builds to win! Such is the case at Ford Racing, the only manufacturer to offer a diverse line of fully engineered, turn-key, winning race cars for racers ~ from amateurs to professionals.

The beginning of the dynasty started with the Mustang FR500C, a car designed to compete in the professional GRAND-AM Cup series (now the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge). The FR500C had a remarkable first season, winning the "triple crown"-the drivers', manufacturers' and team championships! The formula was so good that the car was taken to Europe where it stormed to the 2007 FIA GT4 championship. Since then, it has carried on by winning races and multiple championships in 2008 and 2009.

For the 2010 Grand-Am season, Ford Racing celebrated "The Boss Is Back" when the Mustang Boss 302R competed on track. Based off the Boss 302 production car, the 302R features a majority of the powertrain parts found on the streetcar including a sealed high output 5.0L modular engine, a close ratio 6-speed transmission and a torsen rear differential.

In 2011, Ford Racing will launch the Boss 302S, a road race Mustang that is legal to run in the World Challenge GTS class and NASA's American Iron Series. Built at the Ford Flat Rock Plant in Michigan, the 302S is designed for road racing sprint events or open track days. Equipment includes the same 5.0L engine found in the 302R plus a front splitter and adjustable rear wing.

For Mustangs at the drag strip, the turn-key race car from the factory tradition continued. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Mustang Cobra Jet, Ford Racing engineered, built and reintroduced another member of the FR500 family, the FR500CJ (Cobra Jet), to sportsman drag racing. Powered by a supercharged 5.4L Cobra Jet engine, this factory hot rod benefited from the same design and engineering that went into its road racing brethren. And like its road racing brothers, the Cobra Jet won its first time out! In 2010, Ford Racing produced another run of 50 Cobra Jets that included a Super Cobra Jet engine option. Watch for a new 2012 Cobra Jet to hit the drag strip this year. Options for 2012 include two new paint colors; Race Red, Grabber Blue in addition to the standard Winner White.
