FRPP whips up Bolt-On Supercharged POWER for Ford Cars and Trucks
  • Ford Racing Performance Parts to offer supercharger packages for variety of production powertrains, from inline fours to V8s.
  • Roots-type and screw-type superchargers have "bolt-on" ease of installation.
  • Power boost delivers increased usable horsepower and torque for enhanced street and off-road performance.

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2 - Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) will be the place to go for any Ford enthusiast looking to add some extra supercharged ponies under the hood of their car or truck. FRPP brought two new screw-type supercharger "swap" kits to the Specialty Equipment Manufacturer's Association (SEMA) show as the first steps in the development of a wide range of bolt-on supercharged power kits.

"Ford has years of experience with factory supercharging, most recently on projects ranging from the Ford GT supercar to the SVT Mustang Cobra and F-150 Lightning," said Jamie Allison, Manager, Ford Racing Performance Parts. "For those enthusiasts seeking more performance, Ford Racing Performance Parts now offers easy bolt-on upgrade kits to SVT supercharged vehicles, and we'll apply the same technology to an expanding list of Ford car and truck powertrains."

The first kits available from FRPP will be supercharger swap kits for the 2003-04 SVT Mustang Cobra and 1999-2004 SVT F-150 Lightning. Ford Racing worked with Whipple Industries on the development of the screw-type supercharger swap kits. The kits will include a new screw-type supercharger to replace the production roots-type unit, including all necessary hardware for direct bolt-on installation. The kits are direct swaps and do not require engine management programming changes. Power is expected to be increased by approximately 20 percent.

The second wave of supercharger upgrade kits will be for the Jackson Racing supercharger units that FRPP offers for the Focus Zetec engines, including both the base 2.0-liter and SVT Focus 2.0-liter units. The new kits will be "big boost" upgrade hardware packages that can be applied to already owned and installed Jackson Racing superchargers, as well as being offered as a complete supercharger package with the "big boost" already included. The "big boost" kit includes all of the necessary hardware as well as a Ford-developed engine management computer calibration update.

"Whether owners are looking to boost the power of their factory supercharged car or truck or they simply want to add supercharged performance to their non-SVT powered Ford, these new FRPP kits will be the hot ticket to adding proven, bolt-on horsepower," Allison said.

Ford Racing's future plans for kits based on the screw-type supercharger technology are to cover a wide range Ford car and truck powertrains. The first stand-alone supercharger kits will be for the new 2005 Mustang's 4.6-liter 3V V8 and for the 2004-05 F-150's 5.4-liter 3V V8. After that, development work will turn to the last-generation F-150's and Expedition's 5.4-liter SOHC V8. Ford Racing will then continue with truck applications including the 6.8-liter 2V and 3V V10s.
